The LORD’s Prayer

Today’s a good day for an honest truth, sometimes I find prayer difficult!  There are days the words don’t seem to flow, or all the words are about me and what I think I need, or even days when I skip praying all together because of my inability to say no to people or the busyness of the day.  There is never a time when the LORD is not in my thoughts and short prayers are peppered throughout my day.  The prayer I’m talking about is time spent before the Father, waiting on Him, intentional, focused prayer.  Can anyone else relate?

Something often forgotten is that Jesus himself taught us how to pray, He gave us an example, telling us to pray in this way.  We call this The LORD’s Prayer, and I like so many others learned to recite this prayer when I was just ‘knee-high to a grasshopper!’  Or really little!  You can find this way of praying in Matthew 6:9-13.

“𝑰𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒓, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆, 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒚:

𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑭𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒏, 𝑯𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆.

𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒅𝒐𝒎 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆. 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝑶𝒏 𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒔 𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒏.

𝑮𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒖𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒚 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅.

𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒖𝒔 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒆𝒃𝒕𝒔, 𝑨𝒔 𝒘𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒆𝒃𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒔.

𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒅𝒐 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒖𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒖𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒍 𝒐𝒏𝒆.

𝑭𝒐𝒓 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒅𝒐𝒎 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒍𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓. 𝑨𝒎𝒆𝒏.”

Studying this sacred prayer, this roadmap to a fulfilling and fervent prayer life has helped me in so many ways, especially on the days I find difficult.  It is a prayer that is breathtaking in its beauty, resplendent in revelation, and packed with power.  If you take the time to focus on the words, consider what you are saying and not merely repeat it by routine you will rediscover the precious words of Jesus that will breathe new life into your rhythm of prayer.  Interesting to note that just a few verses earlier Jesus said, “𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒚, 𝒅𝒐 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒗𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒅𝒐.” (vs 7) Mindlessly repeating the LORD’s prayer without thought will not achieve anything.

Tomorrow we’ll dive a little deeper into this prayer and see what God unfolds, but today, I invite you to take a moment and say the LORD’s Prayer with me and as we do really think about the words we are saying.  Say it out loud so that it echoes through your soul – “𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑭𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓…”

Rivers of Life

In John 7:37-38 Jesus said;“𝑰𝒇 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒔, 𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒅𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒌. 𝑯𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑴𝒆, 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒑𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅, 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒇𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓.” Jesus promised not only to fill those who are thirsty, but promised that rivers of life would flow out from their innermost being. 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻, 𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁.

In Israel, there are two seas that are fed from the Jordan River. The Sea of Galilee, teaming with life, home to a myriad of fish, the soil is so fertile that almost any plant will flourish. The rabbis wrote, “𝙰𝚕𝚝𝚑𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑 𝙶𝚘𝚍 𝚑𝚊𝚜 𝚌𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚝𝚎𝚍 𝚜𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚗 𝚜𝚎𝚊𝚜, 𝚢𝚎𝚝 𝙷𝚎 𝚑𝚊𝚜 𝚌𝚑𝚘𝚜𝚎𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚊𝚜 𝙷𝚒𝚜 𝚜𝚙𝚎𝚌𝚒𝚊𝚕 𝚍𝚎𝚕𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝.”

The other sea fed by the Jordan is the Dead Sea. During the Crusades, this sea was sometimes referred to as the “𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗹’𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗮!” Sitting at 1,300 feet below sea level, this lake is the lowest place on earth. Nothing lives in the Dead Sea. Nothing.

These two seas are in the same area of Israel, fed by the same river but one of them is full of life and the other quite dead! The difference is that the Jordan River flows into the Sea of Galilee and then flows out again, but the Jordan only flows into the Dead Sea, there is no outlet. The Dead Sea takes the river in and keeps it to itself. The result–no life at all!

If we become like the Dead Sea, wanting only to be poured into, the results will be catastrophic. We need to be like the Sea of Galilee, thirsty, drinking of the Living Water but letting that river flow from us. 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲, 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗺. It’s only when we do this that we will begin to see abundant, rich fruit in our lives.🦋💕

I Am Prayer

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘁.  Especially words spoken against you by a friend.  They cut deep and can become a festering wound.  When I was young, if someone was being mean we used to chant the phrase; “𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵 𝘮𝘦!”  But the fact of the matter is – that simply isn’t true.   Words that are spoken have great power, the bible tells us the power of life or death!  (Prov 18:21)

Powerful King David, the man after God’s own heart, wasn’t immune to the wounding of words from those he considered friends.  Psalm 109:4-5 tells us this, “𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒆; 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒎𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆.   𝑰𝒏 𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒎𝒚 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒎𝒆, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒂 𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓.”    David felt surrounded by words of hatred, attacked for no apparent reason, accused, maligned, and criticized.  Sound familiar?  He was hurt and his soul was downcast.  No-one would have blamed him if he had risen up and retaliated in kind.  I am amazed at David’s response – “𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒂 𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓.”

“𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒂 𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓!”  David took it to the LORD in prayer.  Even when they attack me and accuse me, I will pray.  Even when they shout words of hatred at me, talk about me behind my back, I will pray.  Even when they lie about me, slander my name, or smear my name, I will pray.  I am a man of prayer.  I for one can certainly learn something from David as so often I react immediately instead of taking the time to pray and asking the LORD what my response should be.

The Hebrew meaning behind David’s phrase, “𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒂 𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓,” is interesting.  Translated it becomes, ‘𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓.”  David’s whole life was characterized by prayer, it was that important to him.  Charles Spurgeon puts it this way, “𝘏𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘺.  𝘏𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘦.”  David became prayer as they became hatred, he became prayer as they became discontent.

And so, the question becomes, which do we want to be?  We have to choose.  We can choose to become people of prayer or people that are marked by the unkind words we say, by the gossip that we speak.  In my heart of hearts, I want to be prayer but today is a good day to take stock of the things I say, to consider my actions and reactions, and to remember to take everything to God in prayer.

Giants in Prayer

Have you ever heard of David Livingstone?  As a child I loved the story of how this incredible Scottish missionary discovered Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, he thought the falls were so beautiful that he stated, “𝘴𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘨𝘢𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘶𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘧𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵”.  After many years of not hearing from Livingstone a reporter was sent out to Africa to find him, upon locating him he declared the famous quote, “𝘋𝘳. 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘐 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘦?!” As young preteens we just loved this phrase and would repeat it to each other in the best British accent we could muster and then collapse in fits of giggles!  However, this is not the story that I want you to remember.

David Livingstone was sent a note by one of the chiefs in the surrounding area where he was working.  The message said that they would lose their lives that very night as he was coming with his warriors to slaughter them all.  As you can imagine Dr. Livingstone was very afraid and cried out to the LORD for protection.  That night, nothing happened!  Some months later the same chief gave his life to the LORD and Livingstone asked him why he hadn’t killed them as they had said they would.  The chief looked at him and told him, “𝘞𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥, 𝘸𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 39 𝘨𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘴, 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘱!”

Many years later, David Livingstone returned to Scotland, to the small rural church that had sent him to Africa, and he told them the story.  After the meeting the church secretary approached him and asked, “𝘋𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘧 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶?”   Livingstone did and gave it to her.  Looking through the church records she came to that very day and showed him the entry.  𝗢𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟯𝟵 𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲!   Coincidence?  I think not.

Sometimes we don’t realize what the scripture, “𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆, 𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒂 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒆𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒗𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒔 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉,” really means! (James 5:16)  What is the much?  I would think much more than we could ever even begin to imagine.  I do know that our prayers don’t have to be fancy ones, they don’t have to be long ones, or even ones with flowery words, but they have to be effective and fervent.  Led by the Holy Spirit.

The far-reaching effects of our prayers we may never fully know, but we do know that great things are achieved by prayer, there is power in our prayer, and God hears and acts on every effective, fervent prayer!

He Restores My Soul

There are times in my life where I feel worn down, burned out.  I can feel more easily irritated with people and oh so frustrated!  Is that you today?  Do you feel as though your soul is downcast, a touch of depression has slipped in, and those tears are being only just held back?  Almost as though your life is quite simply upside down.  These are time to cry out to the LORD, “𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗹!”

God is indeed our Good Shepherd, and I am certainly a sheep.  I go astray, I wonder off, I like to do things on my own, in my own haphazard way.  How thankful I am that our wonderful Father is that shepherd who will always come after me, showing His patience in so many ways.

Here’s something interesting I didn’t know before.  Have you ever heard of a ‘cast sheep?’  Many sheep have a tendancy to roll onto their backs and as their feet loose contact with the ground they find themselves unable to turn back over.  Sometimes it’s because their wooly coat is overgrown, or they are out of shape and overweight.  But try as they might, they cannot right themselves or turn themselves over.  They are upside down.  They have to wait for the Shepherd to come and turn them over again, to set them on their feet once again.

How like me in my own life – the stress and weight of the world causing me to feel as though everything is mixed up, upside down, difficult, tiring.  𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗱, 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝘆, 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲.  𝗛𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 ‘𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗹𝘀.”

The Hebrew word for restore means ‘𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯.’  God will return us to a place where there is life, energy, vision for the future, but we cannot do that ourselves.  Only God can restore our soul.  Only our loving Father can make things right again.  We cannot do this on our own and cannot carry on in life as though we are the Energizer Bunny!  Even he runs out of power eventually.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗹𝘀?  Through His Word, His Word that brings life, renews our mind, gives us the strength to run and not grow weary.  Psalm 19:7 tells us: “𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙬 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩, 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙡; 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙊𝙍𝘿 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚, 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚.”  My desire is to be restored, wise, full of vision, energized, right side up!

Today if you feel spiritually beaten down, exhausted, if you’re weighed down by the burdens of the world.  Perhaps on the receiving end of something unfair, so weary that you feel that you cannot overcome.  𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝘀𝗼𝗮𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱, 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲. 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗹.

Too Good To Be True

Have you ever had news that seems simply too good to be true?  In fact, the news is so good that joy explodes inside you, and you can hardly comprehend it!  I remember when my husband and I were trying to have a baby, time after time we were disappointed.  And then that day came, I’ll never forget it, when the nurse told me I was pregnant!  I wanted to jump over the counter and kiss her, I couldn’t believe it.  I walked home floating on a cloud, so incredibly overjoyed.  𝗜𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲.

In 1965, Navy Commander Porter Halyburton was shot down over Vietnam along with his co-pilot.  His wife Marty Halyburton was informed of his death and the news was absolutely devastating.  A young widow at 24 with a newborn baby to raise by herself.  Coming to grips with her husband’s death was truly hard and I cannot imagine the river of tears she must have shed.  18 months later it was discovered that Porter was a Prisoner of War in the Hanoi Hilton and not dead at all!  Military representatives came to Marty’s home with the dramatic news that her husband was alive – what a roller coaster.  She was then told not to tell anyone at this point.  How do you hide a new spring in your step, a smile that radiates from your lips, and eyes that brim with excitement?  As soon as Marty was permitted, she called everyone she could think of with the news; “𝗛𝗲’𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲!”

After Jesus rose again He appeared to the eleven disciples, at first, they were frightened thinking that they were seeing a ghost and then Jesus showed them the brutal scars in His hands, the nail marks in His feet.  In Luke 24:41 it says this; “𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙟𝙤𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙯𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙨𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢, “𝘿𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙖𝙩?”  They were so amazed, and joy bubbled up within them, they almost couldn’t believe it.  Jesus was alive!!  They bought Him some fish and he ate, definitely not a ghost.  Can you just imagine their excitement?!

Joy and Amazement, Delight and Wonder.  Elation that Jesus was alive, that He rose again, defeated Satan, sin and death on our behalf!  Good news indeed.  Very good news.  Should this not be our reaction every time we sit with Him, each morning when we breath the name “Jesus,” at the beginning of our prayers.  Joy and Amazement that we are meeting with the One who made the stars to shine, took on the enemy and won, knows every hair on our heads.  Delight and Wonder that the Savior of the World sits down and communes with us! Oh, Precious Jesus, how wonderful.

Creativity

Imagine watching the Creator create right at the beginning of time! A streak of liquid gold rips across the sky and thunder and lightning are spoken into existence. Tiny tree frogs of every hue appear out of nothing. An ostrich with its long, scrawny neck and incredibly lengthy eyelashes, a chameleon changing from one color to the next, soft baby lambs and mighty lions with enormous feet shaking their golden manes, all summoned at the word of God! Creativity at its finest!

In Exodus 31:3-5 we discover a man named Bezalel. Bezalel was the first man to ever be 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 with the Spirit of God. “𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙄 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙝𝙞𝙢 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙂𝙤𝙙, 𝙞𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙙𝙤𝙢, 𝙞𝙣 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙞𝙣 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙡𝙚𝙙𝙜𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥, 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨, 𝙩𝙤 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙞𝙣 𝙜𝙤𝙡𝙙, 𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙫𝙚𝙧, 𝙞𝙣 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙯𝙚, 𝙞𝙣 𝙘𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙟𝙚𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙞𝙣 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙤𝙤𝙙, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥.” Bezalel was filled with the Spirit of God so that he could create! The gift of creativity from the Creator!

Here we stand, right on the edge of a brand-new year. A fresh year full of opportunity. Let’s pray that the Creator would fill us with His Holy Spirit enabling us to be full to the very top with creativity. That the Spirit would give us wisdom, understanding, new ideas and fresh insight into all that we do. That everything we put our hands to will prosper (Deut 28:8) and that the LORD would give us every place we set our feet! (Josh 1:3)

𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗷𝗮𝗺-𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆!

New Adventures

A New Year. New challenges. New adventures. From what we have learned from the years gone by, there will be excitement, breathtaking miracles, trials, and tests, and the presence of the LORD with us through every single moment. Could 2025 be the year we choose to live in faith and obedience like those great heroes of the faith? A great army marching side by side, conquering the great unknown for the King and His Kingdom?

As I contemplated one of those great heroes, Elijah, I concluded that so many of those quests and commands from the Great I Am are often not the way I would plan them, but Elijah was obedient every step of the way. Do you remember the widow whose oil and flour never ran out? The story in 1 Kings 17 is worth a read. “𝙂𝙤 𝙖𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙕𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙝 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙞𝙙𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚. 𝙄 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙖 𝙬𝙞𝙙𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙮 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙙.” Go to a region of the Gentiles, Sidon, the one where Jezebel reigns? Surely there were widows in Israel. A widow would supply Elijah with food! Were they not the ones who lived in poverty? An unlikely quest, but one that Elijah obeyed without question when I have so many.

As Elijah met with the young widow and asked her to feed him, he certainly challenged the status quo. She told him she was gathering sticks to cook a last meal for herself and her son and then they would die! His response was contrary to anything that could be seen, when all the widow could see was scarcity, he talked of plenty, Elijah recognized God’s provision when the widow could only see deprivation. Elijah brought an encouraging word, one of faith into a situation of fear and resignation, his words to her; “𝘿𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙖𝙛𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙙.”

Elijah trusted in the promise before He saw it, he knew God would deliver. He acted in obedience. Death and disaster were silenced by hope and a breathtaking miracle broke through. God provided, for both Elijah and the Gentile widow and her son.

As we go into 2025 let’s be like Elijah, trusting in the promises of God even when we don’t see them, obedient to those instructions that seem out of the ordinary, a willing participant in God’s breathtaking miracles! 🦋💕

God’s Steadfast Love

There is something absolutely magical about a New Year—that clean slate, the opportunity to do things better or differently to the way they were done last year. There is something wonderful about putting up a crisp, clean calendar and carefully writing in those first new appointments. It is a time when we reflect back on the year before and vow to pray more, read more, give more, spend more time with the children, with your loved ones, with the LORD.

Lamentations 3:22-23 says that “𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙛𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙘𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙨; 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙣𝙙; 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜; 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨.” Our LORD doesn’t just give you a clean slate at the beginning of a New Year, but every single day of the week! His love for you is new every day. It never, ever ceases. There is no end to His mercies!

As you sit back and reflect on what this New Year will bring, allow God to take His pen and begin to write your story on your clean slate. Remember that He will give you a new one whenever you ask for it! His mercy is new every morning and He is faithful—so very faithful!🦋💕

Abiding in 2025

𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱! When I say that out loud it doesn’t seem possible that we could be in 2025 already! Along with a new year comes new visions, resolutions, a brand-new page to be written upon. It’s a time to sit and ponder about what 2025 will bring, a time of hope for the future. We want to do better, be thinner, get fitter, save more, love more. A desire for change is birthed every New Year’s morning!

As I sat and considered my own life a study came across my desk, it is called The Power of 4 Effect. The Center for Bible Engagement surveyed over 400,000 people around their world and their findings were astounding. If you are not reading your Bible four times a week, then your life is statistically the same as that of a non-believer! Your life will not change in any significant way than that of one who never reads His Word! This survey also discovered if you are in God’s Word four times a week, you are 30% less likely to be lonely, 59% less likely to view pornography, 228% more likely to share your faith and 407% more likely to memorize Scripture! Those are some mind-blowing stats!

John 8:31-32 says this; “𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙅𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙨 𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙅𝙚𝙬𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙃𝙞𝙢, “𝙄𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙈𝙮 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙙, 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙈𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙙. 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙝, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚.” If you tarry and remain in the Word of God, then you will know the truth! Not only that, but His Word will also set you free and deliver you from bondage! What a beautiful promise, a promise of change and freedom.

𝗔𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗜 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗱. He will change you, remold you, and set you free. You will be a radically different person by the end of this year. Not only that but when those hard times come you will have something to stand on, God’s Word hidden in your heart!🦋💕
